The story of the Battle of Gettysburg is a story rich in characters, chivalry, morals and lessons to be learned. Acting on incomplete information in a warn-torn area and crippled by weaknesses of their comrades, honorable individuals relying on the strengths of their leaders were forced to make monumental decisions that altered the course of the nation’s history. This battle exemplifies and encapsulates the human dynamics of two opposing forces and how, under extreme circumstances, their leaders motivated their subordinates while simultaneously risking lives for a single vision. The three-day campaign at Gettysburg is a case study of leadership, loyalty and motivation.
This training is designed to enrich organizational leadership and create more effective communication and productivity among members. Using the battlefield as a classroom, this course offers two days of executive-level leadership development, soul searching and introspective reflection on individual leadership qualities. The leadership decisions made during this battle culminated in a number of successes and failures. Through a historical perspective, participants will be challenged to apply the lessons learned from this battle to their professional lives today. The psychological and social make-up of key decision makers, leadership styles and traits, decision-making and ramifications of individual decisions will be discussed along with the key factors, decisions, influences and outcomes of the battle.
The Gettysburg experience, facilitated by Deputy Chief James A. Cervera, Virginia Beach Police Department, includes a personalized group tour of the Gettysburg National Military Park by a Licensed Battlefield Guide. The learning objectives of this training are for participants to learn and define their individual leadership style and develop and expand leadership skills in the following areas:
Ø Strategic Planning; Ø Relationship and Team Building, Ø Decision-making in a “Blink”; Ø Motivating Your People to do The Impossible and The Imaginable; Ø Interpersonal Relationships; Ø Succession Planning; Ø Ethics, and Ø Integrity and Honor
